Gambling is entertainment with a price, like a concert ticket. The useful question is not how much you might win but how much the evening is allowed to cost. Pick that number first, and treat reaching it as the end of the session. You can set one below and the coach will hold you to it.

Chips per way at a bet of 20. A symbol pays when it sits on that many reels in a row starting from reel 1, and the pay is multiplied by the ways: the symbol's count on each of those reels, multiplied together. The dimmer figures are smaller than the bet, so one way of those costs more than it returns. The wild lands on the top reel only and stands in for every paying symbol.

Every other sun carries a plain value from 1 to 100 bets. Suns pay nothing on a paid spin. 6 or more in view when the cascades stop start 3 respins: suns hold, a new sun sets the count back to 3, and every sun pays when the count runs out. The tiers are fixed amounts, not a pooled prize.

What the ways counter and the respins are worth
Nova Drift is a free Hypernova Megaways alternative: our own slot machine, built to play the way ReelPlay's game plays.
Six reels that each land 2 to 7 symbols high, a four-symbol top reel across reels 2 to 5, up to 117,649 ways to win, wins that break up and cascade, and suns that hold in place through a round of jackpot respins. There are no free spins, because the original has none. If you came looking for a free game like it, this is that mechanic, with reels that spin and stop, symbols that fall, and a star that goes nova when the respins start. The name, the symbols, the sound, the weights behind the reels and the pay table are ours.

Symbols on each reel, multiplied together. The gold row is the top reel, which adds one symbol to each of reels 2 to 5. The full 117,649 show up on about 1 spin in 483,092, and the number counts paths across the screen, not matches.
What is different from the original, and from any real machine, is everything a real machine leaves out.
This one returns 95.96% of the chips bet on it and keeps 4.04%, a figure simulated over 100,000,000 rounds of the same code the machine plays with. 35.8% of spins pay something, and 60% of those pay less than the spin cost, so only 13.2% of spins leave you with more chips than before. The respins start on about 1 spin in 181 and carry 26.2% of everything the machine pays back. The machine lights up for every payout. The status line under the reels and the coach beside them tell you which kind you just had.

What this page is for is entertainment, and seeing clearly what this kind of machine does: what a ways counter in the tens of thousands is and is not, how a respin count that keeps going back to three feels against what it pays, and what the odds of each jackpot tier are.

One weighted draw for each sun that lands. A tier that can be in view only once is left out of the draw while one is showing.
- Six reels. On every spin each reel lands at its own height: reels 1 and 6 show 2 to 7 symbols, and reels 2 to 5 show 2 to 6 symbols of their own plus one symbol from a four-symbol top reel that lies across them, so 3 to 7 in all. A spin costs 20, 40, 100 or 200 chips.
- There are no lines. A symbol pays when it is on three or more reels in a row starting from reel 1, and the number of ways it pays is its count on each of those reels multiplied together. Seven symbols on all six reels is 117,649 ways, the most there can be. The counter on the machine shows the ways in play on the current spin.
- The wild lands on the top reel only, so on reels 2 to 5, and stands in for every paying symbol. It does not stand in for a sun.
- Every winning symbol is removed. The symbols above fall into the gaps and new ones fall in from the top. On the top reel the remaining symbols slide left and new ones come in from the right. The new screen is paid, and this repeats until a screen pays nothing. Reel heights do not change during a spin.
- Suns are the scatter. Each sun carries a prize: a value from 1 to 100 times the bet, or one of four jackpot tiers. A sun is never removed by a cascade, and suns pay nothing on a paid spin.
- 6 or more suns in view when the cascades stop start the nova respins. Every sun holds, and the reel heights stay frozen as they were (that is this machine's own rule). There are 3 respins. On each one every open position either lands a new sun or stays dark. A new sun holds and sets the count back to 3.
- The respins end when the count runs out or every position holds a sun. Then every sun pays what it carries. Symbols do not pay during the respins and no wild appears.
- The four jackpot tiers are fixed amounts, in bets: Corona at 2,000, Flare at 250, Ember at 50, Spark at 10. Corona and Flare can each be on the screen only once, so each is paid at most once in a feature. Ember and Spark can land more than once.
- There are no free spins, no bonus buy and no gamble feature. The respins are the only bonus.
- Autoplay plays 10, 25, 50 or 100 spins at the current bet. It needs a loss limit before it starts, and it stops at that limit, when the spins run out, or when you stop it. Cascades play through. The nova respins are a bonus feature: they play out in full and then the run stops.
- One round pays at most 5,000 times the bet. The whole round, respins included, is decided when Spin is pressed. The animation plays it back and cannot change it.
Sound starts on, and the Sound button switches it off.

FAQ
- Is this slot played for real money?
- No. The table uses play chips that have no value, cannot be bought, and cannot be cashed out or exchanged for anything. If you run out, you are handed another stack for free. There is no account and nothing to download.
- What is the RTP of Nova Drift?
- 95.96%, simulated over 100,000,000 rounds, which puts it within about 0.16 points of the true figure either way. That is the share of all chips bet that the machine pays back, so it keeps 4.04%. At the smallest bet of 20 chips that works out at about 81 chips per 100 spins on average, with wide swings around it in any one session.
- How often does it pay?
- 35.8% of spins pay something, about 1 in 3. But 21.6% of spins pay less than the bet, which is a net loss that looks like a win. Only 13.2% of spins, about 1 in 8, pay more than they cost. About 1 spin in 9 wins again on a cascade, and the respins start on about 1 spin in 181.
- Is Nova Drift a free alternative to Hypernova Megaways?
- Yes. It is built like Hypernova Megaways: six reels of 2 to 7 symbols with a four-symbol top reel over reels 2 to 5, up to 117,649 ways, cascading wins, wilds on the top reel only, no free spins, and jackpot respins that start on six scatters, hold them and reset to three whenever a new one lands. It is free, it needs no account, and it is played with chips that have no value. It is not Hypernova Megaways itself, which is ReelPlay's game, and it is not made, licensed or endorsed by ReelPlay.
- How is it different from Hypernova Megaways?
- The mechanic is the same family and everything else is our own: the name, the art, the sound, the weights behind the reels and the pay table. We call the mechanic variable ways, because the name the original uses for it is a licensed trademark and this game is not licensed. So the numbers are different too. Nova Drift returns 95.96% with a 35.8% hit rate, and those are this machine's figures only. They say nothing about the original's. The other difference is what sits beside the reels: the published figures, a status line that calls a payout smaller than the bet a loss, and a session coach.
- Does 117,649 ways mean 117,649 chances to win?
- No. The ways number is the reel heights multiplied together. It counts paths across the screen, and nearly all of them cross symbols that do not match. The middle spin on this machine has 9,450 ways and the average is 11,844. All 117,649 show up on about 1 spin in 483,092. A tall screen does not change the 4.04% the machine keeps. That figure is an average over every screen, tall and short.
- What are the odds of each jackpot tier?
- Per paid spin, simulated: Corona about 1 spin in 149,925, Flare about 1 spin in 14,680, Ember about 1 spin in 3,371, Spark about 1 spin in 540. The tiers are paid only inside the respins, which start on about 1 spin in 181. A feature ends holding 12.6 suns on average, 81% of them carrying 3 bets or fewer, and 18% of features pay under 20 times the bet. The tiers are fixed amounts here. There is no pooled or progressive prize on play chips.
- Can I tell when the respins are coming?
- No. Every position is drawn on its own and a spin starts from nothing. Five suns in view with no sixth is not a sign of anything: it happens on 1.6% of spins, about 2.9 times as often as the respins themselves, and the prizes printed on those suns are not paid. A run of blank spins does not make a feature due.
- Does autoplay change the odds?
- No. Every spin is drawn the same way and the return stays 95.96%. What it changes is speed: more spins fit into an hour, and the cost of an hour is the number of spins times the 4.04% the machine keeps on each. That is why autoplay here will not start without a loss limit, and why it stops when the nova respins have played.
- What is the most a spin can pay?
- 5,000 times the bet. That is a cap the machine enforces. 1 of the 100,000,000 simulated rounds reached it. A round that pays 100 times the bet or more comes up about once in 2,178 spins. Almost all of the machine's return arrives in far smaller payouts.
How this game works
There are no reel strips. Each spin draws a height for every reel and then a symbol for every position, and each draw is independent. Reels 1 and 6 land 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7 symbols with chances of 10%, 18%, 24%, 22%, 16%, 10%. Reels 2 to 5 land 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 symbols of their own with chances of 14%, 24%, 28%, 22%, 12%, and always carry one top-reel symbol above that. A position on a reel repeats the paying symbol directly above it 35% of the time, which is what puts stacks on the reels. Otherwise it is drawn from these weights, out of 130: Ring Station 5, Gas Giant 8, Telescope 9, Astrolabe 10, Helix 13, Trine 13, Orbit 15, Wave 15, Arc 17, Node 17, Sun 8. The top reel uses the same weights with a Wild at 9 added and no repeats. The draws come from your browser's random number generator.
A sun's prize is one more draw: 81% of suns carry 3 bets or fewer and 3.9% carry a jackpot tier. In the respins every open position lands a sun 3% of the time on each respin, independently of the others.
The 95.96% return is simulated, not counted. A cascade can win again and the respins reset themselves, so the paths through one round have no practical end to walk. Instead the engine was played for 100,000,000 rounds from a fixed seed (seed 20261003) and every figure on this page is a tally from that run. With a run that long the true return is within about 0.16 points of 95.96%, 19 times in 20. An automated test replays the opening stretch of the same run and requires its tallies to match to the chip. The house edge on the common casino bets puts the 4.04% this machine keeps in context.
From that run: 35.8% of spins pay anything, 21.6% pay something smaller than the bet, and 13.2% pay more than the bet. 54.2% of the return is paid by the first screen of a spin, 19.5% by cascades and 26.2% by the respins, which pay 45.6 times the bet on average and run to 10.6 respins with 4.7 resets. The ways in play on a spin average 11,844 with a median of 9,450. The spread of one spin's result has a standard deviation of 7.9 bets.
Jackpot odds are counted the same way: the number of simulated rounds that paid a tier at least once. Corona was paid in 667 of the 100,000,000 rounds, so its odds carry more uncertainty than the others.
The expected figure in the session panel is the share the machine keeps multiplied by the chips you have bet on finished spins. The coach's count of spins in the last minute is taken from when you pressed Spin.
Limits
- The weights and pay table were designed for this page. They are not a copy of Hypernova Megaways or of any other real machine, and these figures describe this machine only.
- Hypernova Megaways is ReelPlay's game. Megaways is a trademark that belongs to its owner. Nova Drift is an independent alternative built on the same kind of mechanic. It is not made, licensed or endorsed by, or affiliated with, ReelPlay or Big Time Gaming.
- Whether the original freezes its reel heights during its respins is not something we could confirm. Freezing them is this machine's rule and is not a statement about the original.
- The figures are simulated, so each has a margin. Rare events have the widest one: the top jackpot tier's odds rest on a small number of simulated hits.
- A real slot is usually shipped in several return settings and the casino chooses one. The same title can keep noticeably more than the figure quoted for it, and a real machine does not print its weights.
- The draws come from an ordinary browser random number generator. It is not an audited or certified generator, and nothing here should be read as a test of one.
- Autoplay is here because the machine this one is modeled on has it. It makes a machine cost more per hour, so it will not start without a loss limit, and the coach prices the pace while it runs. There is no turbo mode: the sources we used do not show that the original has one.
- Play chips do not feel like money. A long blank run is harder to sit through, and to stop after, with a real stake.
This is a practice game for adults. It has no real-money play and links to none. The original, or any slot played with money, keeps its share of every spin, and no way of timing or sizing the spins changes that. On this machine 60% of the spins that pay anything still cost more than they return, and the ways counter does not change that either.
